One of the first questions many brides-to-be ask Google once they start the dress seeking process is “how to get fit for my wedding.”
Before we dive into this topic though, I want to make one thing clear.
There is no such thing as the perfect size bride.
While it is true that weight can be an indicator of one’s health, it is not an indicator of one’s worth.
That said, here are a few ways on how to get fit for your wedding!
How to Get Fit For Your Wedding
Fitness Starts with Nutrition
It’s worth noting that you can never outrun a bad diet! No amount of time on the treadmill can outpace cereal before breakfast each night.
To change everything at once, however, is setting yourself up for failure.
I don’t believe in diets. I believe in healthy habit changes over a period of time.
If cereal before bed is a nightly thing for you, try reducing it to three nights of the week, and the other four are replaced with Greek Yogurt.
Drink soda three times a day? Reduce it down to once a day and try sparkling water instead.
Making simple changes slowly and over a six month period of time will have much better and longer lasting results than fad diets like Keto and Paleo.
Join a Gym
The type of gym you join is depending on your own level of self-accountability and knowledge of movements.
If you already know a good routine to follow, a 24/7 gym may be right for you.
However, many people new to working out don’t know where to start. Having to put the extra effort in knowing what to even do can be enough to make a bride quit her first day.
If you can’t join a gym consider hiking! (Hiking can also make for a great engagement session adventure!)
In 2020, I began my own fitness journey. I had no idea what I would do, so I knew I had to find a program that took the thinking out of it.
I ended up joining a CrossFit gym that was near me, because I knew each day I only had to walk into class and do whatever was on the board.
Little did I know, my gym at Rock City Complete Fitness would teach me about the next thing you need to get fit for your wedding.
Find Accountability
You may be self disciplined, but nothing keeps you motivated like accountability.
It is easy to throw in the towel on yourself, but when you are held accountable by another, it makes giving up harder to do.
Going back to my own experience with CrossFit, what I experienced more than anything was the sense of accountability.
CrossFit works long-term because it sets you up with a team of like-minded individuals who hold you accountable.
I would be lying to say it’s not a cult, because it is filled with CULTure.
Everyone involved wants to get better and see you do better.
That means when you don’t arrive to class or put in the effort, others notice. And they check in with you too.
They notice where you are growing and encourage you when you are struggling.
There are other places to find accountability.
- Find a friend who is involved with fitness
- Ask your family to support you and check in on your goals
- Join an online forum where you share results with others who are on their own fitness journey
- Get a gym buddy you meet with once a week
Create a Routine and Stick To It – Consistency is Key
Nutrition, functional fitness, accountability…all of this is a waste of your time if you do not stick with it.
At first, you may feel you are not making progress.
Stick with it and you’ll be on your way to reaching your fitness goals for your wedding.
In 2 weeks, you will feel it. In 4 weeks, you will see it. And in 8 weeks, you will hear it.
One Final Note
I want to reemphasize the fact there is no such thing as the perfect size bride.
It’s easy to get caught up in what society tells us what is beautiful and desirable. What matters most, at the end of it all, is our health.
Spiritual, mental, and physical.
It does nothing good for you if one of these areas suffer while focusing on bettering your physical health.
There is power in balance, and balance is different for everyone.
Go crush your goals, live a balanced life, and enjoy this moment.
Your wedding will be here before you know it!
