I’m struggling to put words to this engagement session at Two Rivers Park in Little Rock, Arkansas. That’s because Nick and Katherine are truly a unique couple.
On the surface level, there isn’t really anything that makes the two of them stand out. In fact, they’re your everyday couple.
Yet when you sit down with the two of them and really get to understand who they are, you’ll find they’re truly unique.
Katherine is the type of woman who marches to the beat of her own drum. While excited for her wedding, she’s the type who hasn’t dreamed of it her whole life.
She’s more of the type that wants to have a beautiful wedding because she wants to have the wedding with her husband.
Then there’s Nick, a man in his residency who has an incredible mind and words thoughtfully chosen as if he is weighing the impact of every word he says.
Katherine and Nick’s Engagement Session
Starting at Guillermo’s Coffee
To begin their engagement session, we all first met at Guillermo’s Coffee in Little Rock.
There are two reasons for this:
- Starting off an engagement session in a relaxed environment can really ease a couple into the session. It’s not every day that we have a camera in our face, so the initial tendency is to shy away from the camera. By starting here, we were able to talk first, enjoy coffee, and ease our way into the session.
- Guillermo’s is the location of Katherine and Nick’s first date! It’s always fun revisiting familiar and special places for an engagement session. A coffee shop engagement session can be very fun, especially when it has significance.
The crew at Guillermo’s were so welcoming for us to have the session there, and we made the extra effort to leave the place better than we found it.
What I love most about this location particularly is the couch by the windows. Aside from the beautiful, it allows for a cozy, relaxed atmosphere for couples to enjoy.
As Katherine and Nick snuggled on the love seat, they expressed deep words of affection towards each other. Honestly, when I asked, “What makes Katherine so special to you?” to Nick, I did not expect a profound answer from him.
*Note to self, start recording these answers.
After this, we went to Two Rivers Park to continue their engagement session.
Engagement Session at Two Rivers Park
After the 15 minute drive from Guillermo’s to Two Rivers Park (the opposite bridge to Big Dam Bridge), we jumped out of our cars and started immediately back into the session.
With the two of them dressed up to the nines, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to snag a few photos of them standing in the high-evening sun shimmering its way through the trees and tall grass.
Then, after a quick change, we high-tailed our way across the bridge to reach the other side.
Again, significance is a wonderful thought when planning the location of an engagement session.
Just on the little island across the bridge is where Nick led Katherine to the open field to “awkwardly ask her to marry him.”
(From the sounds of it, it may have been the only time his words were fumbled! But I have no room to talk the way I stammered my way through asking my wife to marry me!)
From a photographer’s perspective, shooting in an open field with high-sun can be very difficult. With a couple who has gained complete confidence in front of the camera, things get a bit easier.
Katherine and Nick, this was fun.
I can’t wait to do this at your wedding – it’s going to be wonderful!
